Signs O’ The Times

From the latest blog post by the Jonas Brothers, who are supposed to be the big musical heartthrobs of the moment: “Thanks for making our new CD Platinum in 10 weeks.” Recall that A Little Bit Longer sold 525,000 copies in its first week, and you’d conclude that even the little girls understand that buying albums is so 20th-century… [Jonas Brothers MySpace Blog]

That averages out to about 52,700 copies a week for the last nine weeks — or one-tenth what the album sold in its first week.

As Hollywood people might say, that show doesn’t have legs. I wouldn’t be bragging about results like that, especially when Weezy did the same in one week.

@Chris Molanphy: It’s not them so much as the climate. And isn’t the money in touring now? How are they stacking up in that department?

And it took them, what, like 29 weeks to go platinum last time. Isn’t that a marked improvement when your fans are spoiled, tech-savvy young’uns naturally inclined toward online thievery?

Weezy’s fans, judging from the kids I work with and my daily busride, mostly get online at the library (and my office) and still use portable CD players. Viva la difference.
