Damn You, Irritating Female Singers Of ’08, For Recording A Song I Like

Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson, while I’m sure they are delightful people who anyone would be lucky to get to know, were two of my least welcome music-related developments this year. Bareilles’ “Love Song” irritated to me to no end, and it haunted me around every adult contemporary corner. Michaelson’s music is just too deliberately cute for my tastes and a tip towards a general Greysanatomizing of music that is sure to drive me mad if it goes on for too long (although at this pace, it might go belly-up soon enough, so there’s something). However, I couldn’t turn away from the collaboration between my two mortal enemies of Lilith-styled pop while watching VH1’s morning block of videos. The video is cloying, definitely, but the song was oddly transfixing and sweet. I try to avoid nearly all Christmas music this time of year, but I actually wanted to hear this song again.
