No Wonder The Inaugural Music Sounded So Good On TV

Oh noes, the performance of John Williams’ Shaker hymn-biting “Air And Simple Gifts” at the Inaugural on Tuesday was, um, finger-synced because it was just too damn cold out! “Truly, weather just made it impossible,” inaurgural flack Carole Florman told The New York Times. “No one’s trying to fool anybody. This isn’t a matter of Milli Vanilli.” The Times helpfully provided a brief list of other playing-to-tape artists who were caught since what they so haughtily termed “the Milli Vanilli affair” that included Ashlee Simpson, Luciano Pavarotti, and that cute-enough-for-the-Chinese-government girl who lip-synced at the Olympic opener. Who got redlined out of that list at the last minute, I wonder? [NYT]
