TotalMusic is Done

TotalMusic, the joint attempt by Sony BMG and Universal Music Group to sorta-mirror the “pay for the device, get the music bundled with it” model that Nokia’s Comes With Music service is currently experimenting with in Europe, is apparently totally dunzo, and it’s taken down with it the on-campus download site Ruckus. A blog post by product-management VP Jason Herskowitz says that “it’s hard to blame [whoever funded the project from pulling the plug on a still-highly-speculative offering” in the current woeful economic climate, but I’m sure that there was at least a little major-label cluelessness that hastened the venture’s demise as well.
