Kanye West Welcomes Us To The Heartbreak Of Not Being First With An Idea

Yesterday Kanye West released the video for “Welcome To Heartbreak” on his blog, saying that he’d been working on it with the director Nabil Elderkin for the last month but upon finding out that another clip using a similar technique was already out there, he’d scuttled plans to release it officially. The distorted-pixel effect that propels the clip was also used in a video for iPod-endorsing electro act Chairlift, which premiered online last week and called the technique “holy datamosh.” (I wonder if that’s what Kanye exclaimed when he found out about being beaten to the punch?) After the jump, the two videos back-to-back, so you can decide which one you like better.

I kind of prefer the Kanye clip, if only because it seems to have more of a narrative going on than “check this awesome effect,” but your feelings may differ.
