Jamie Foxx Gets Drunk With A Little Help From His Friends

The Hype Williams-directed video for Jamie Foxx‘s ode to the deleterious effects of alcohol, “Blame It,” seems to focus on two things: the color red and bizarre celebrity cameos. In the credit sequence (yep), Jarhead costar Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker, Ron Howard, and Jamie Foxx are highlighted, but there are plenty more to come. Wait. Ron Howard?! Yep, Opie Cunningham himself.

Howard—via his great appearances on the Simpsons and other shows-has created a cottage industry of mocking himself, but he plays it pretty straight here, as do the other participants. Let’s see, I identified Quincy Jones, Morris Chesnutt, Tatyana Ali, Samuel L. Jackson, Cedric the Entertainer, and Bill Bellamy among the redfaced revellers. Wait. Bill Bellamy?! Was someone drunk when they cast this thing? And the song? I dig it pretty well, though to our Autotune alarmists out there, Jamie Foxx’s voice is so tweaked here that when featured guest star T-Pain shows up, the two are almost indistinguishable. Like the two BET hosts said at the end, it looked like a good time was had making this video, though it’s not the most exciting thing to watch. At the very least, the ruby red video captures the theme of the song, which seems to be that alcohol is the solution and/or cause to all life’s problems.
