Madonna To Accelerate Her Spiral Into Irrelevance With Really Ugly Clothes

Sure, this may just be another sign that the idea of a “counterculture” in the Internet age is quaint, dead, and buried at the same time, but something about Elle UK‘s speculation that Madonna may work on a line for Ed Hardy—the official clothier of every person I never want to meet ever—is sorta disheartening. Perhaps it’s the way that the garishly studded, utterly overpriced, one-step-above-Joey-Buttafuoco’s-Zubaz garments hawked by the company are already on their way to becoming the Von Dutch caps of the late oughts. Or the way that Madonna used to at least define trends for people stuck out in the suburbs, whereas now she’s reduced to chasing along after them, like a family dog whose afternoon nap resulted in her being left behind at a campground. I mean, yeah, I came around to “4 Minutes” eventually, but I at least liked some of what Timbaland had done in his earlier career. [Elle UK via Mahalo]
