Yesterday the Noisettes—and a few extra instrumentalists—took to Radio 1’s Live Lounge, and they paid the studio’s entry fee of One Cover Of A Notable Track with a chiming version of the Killers‘ “When You Were Young.” I generally object to songs being gender-flipped lyrically when the sin , but there’s something about the arrangement of this particular track, and the infectious way Shingai Shoniwa turns the song’s main riff into a series of “la-la-la”ing, that makes me overlook this crime a bit. Those of you who need a refresher course on the original can hear it after the jump.

I know a few people who are trying to start a “Sam’s Town wasn’t that bad” movement. I dunno, though. This song is actually pretty good, and “Read My Mind” has aged quite well over the past three years—but when you get to “The River Is Wild,” the whole theory falls apart a bit.
