Guided By Voices Don’t Know Who The Mother Is, Either

May 5th, 2009 // 3 Comments

I don’t know about you, but among my friends who watch How I Met Your Mother, there was a lot of wailing and gnashing of virtual teeth over the “twist” at the end of last night’s episode, in which an irritating character from the recent past made a return, thanks to the fickle fingers of fate (and an apparently unhygenic bagel place). But the long montage of hugs that led up to that slightly disappointing, but apparently not game-changing, moment was kind of awesome, thanks both to Ted Mosby turning into one of those kids at the Bamboozle wearing a “FREE HUGS” t-shirt for a few minutes and the use of “Glad Girls,” by the shamble-pop stalwarts Guided By Voices, as the musical bed. Clip from last night’s show above; the 100% 120 Minutes-y video after the jump.

  1. I love that video. One of the few vids where the visuals match the song perfectly.

  2. Yeah, there is no way that Stella is the mother. Didn’t the mother own that yellow umbrella before Ted stole it from a club on some holiday (St. Patrick’s day?)? Its probably that Stella feels bad about leaving Ted at the alter and sets him up with the mother. (Especially since there are rumors that ABC is again going to pick up Scrubs.)

I love HIMYM (and wish I had access to a chart-making department). Also, I call BS that Barney has “only” slept with 200 girls so far. Its probably been 200 during the life of the show. Heck, there are at least 64 that he thought might be his stalker. Ok, I better stop now before I do this all afternoon…

  3. I don’t watch this show but ‘Glad Girls’ is one of my favorite GBV songs. It was the first song my son ever sang — kinda embarassing though to have a 2-year old sitting there singing, “I only wanna get you high.”
