Injuries Continue To Chip Away At Aerosmith’s Lineup

Aerosmith is returning to its co-headlining tour with ZZ Top tonight after a leg injury to frontman Steven Tyler caused the postponement of seven dates. Also back in the saddle this evening in Atlanta: guitarist Brad Whitford, who had to undergo surgery after an incident involving his Ferrari, his head, and an unfortunate collision between the two. But the band won’t be at full strength yet. Bass player Tom Hamilton will be sitting out an unspecified number of dates after undergoing a non-invasive surgical procedure; he’ll be replaced by longtime Joe Perry collaborator David Hull for those dates. That’s 60% of the band to be sidelined by one ailment or another during the course of this tour—which only started last month. (Who do the members of the band they think they are, the Mets?) Since the tour is Guitar Hero-sponsored, you’d think the people at Activision would have figured out some way to have avatars ready in case of incidents like the ones listed above before the band headed out on the road. Maybe next time!
