Justin Timberlake Gets A Very Special Emmy Nomination Box

Jul 16th, 2009 // 7 Comments

Nominees for the 61st annual Emmy Awards were announced this morning, and while 30 Rock came away with the highest number of overall mentions, we should probably extend a bit of congratulations to the increasingly multitalented Justin Timberlake, who walked away with three nominations—two songs he contributed lyrics to received Outstanding Original Music honors, and he was also tabbed for a Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series nod in honor of his stint guest-hosting Saturday Night Live. The two songs that Timberlake had a hand in, and some of their competition, after the jump.

“Motherlover” (from Saturday Night Live, May 9, 2009)

(NB: I had to use the censored version, because the “too hot for TV” one would require you to log in.)

“I Love Sports” (from the 2008 ESPY Awards, July 2008)

Something tells me that “Motherlover” might pull this out, although the more staid voting members might object to its raunchiness and vote for the Muppets’ song nominated in the same category instead. Also up for an award: Flight of the Conchords’ “Carol Brown,” the semi-sweet ode to exes that had a Michel Gondry-directed video:

Hugh Jackman’s opening number from the 2009 Academy Awards is also nominated, and rounding out the category is a holiday-themed tune that Fountains of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger and his co-writer for the musical adaptation of Cry-Baby David Javerbaum penned for Stephen Colbert’s Christmas special, performed by Colbert and Elvis Costello:

61st Emmy Awards Nominations [Emmys]

  1. Yeah, I really liked the FOTC’s song and the Colbert/Costello collab. JT needs to fade away.

  2. That’s actually one of my least-favorite songs from this entire FotC season. I’d certainly be happy if they won, but I personally enjoyed many other songs infinitely more- “Hurt Feelings”, “Sugalumps”, “Friends”, and “Too Many Dicks on the Dance Floor” coming to mind without me even looking at my iTunes. Still, “FotC” are hilarious, and after already grabbing a Grammy, why not give ‘em an Emmy, too?

How about Jemaine getting a nomination for Best Comedy Actor? One, I was shocked they gave him a nod, but two, how can they only nominate one Conchord?!
