Can Janet Jackson Sell Magazines Better Than She Can Sell Records These Days?

According to reports, Harper’s Bazaar editor Glenda Bailey has decided that the October cover of her magazine will feature none other than Janet Jackson, despite the pop singer not gracing the cover of a fashion rag since the ill-fated 20 Y.O. era. Hmm? As of this moment, Janet doesn’t have anything in the pipeline that could conceivably come out around the time that the Bazaar issue drops; on her just-launched Twitter account, she announced that she just finished shooting Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too, which comes out in April of next year, and that she’d be heading back into the studio to work on the follow-up to the disappointing Discipine. The media observers at Mediaite are accusing Bailey of maybe trying to cash in on the death of Jackson’s brother Michael, and, well, the fact that Michael’s concert movie is set to reach theaters at the end of October isn’t really helping on that front. I’m holding out for a huge admission that her last two albums were a total mistake to be the hook of the story, but something tells me that topic is probably a bit too “esoteric” for a rag mag.
