“Twilight” Fans To Be Over The Moon For Death Cab For Cutie Really Soon

The first single from the soundtrack to New Moon, the second installment in the sparkling-vampire Twilight series, isn’t by Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, or Bon Iver. But you’re demographically close! “Meet Me On The Equinox,” which will debut during the Video Music Awards on Sept. 13, is actually by Death Cab For Cutie, who are so excited at the possibility of being the next Paramore that they’ve released a statement:

“We are very excited to be a part of this amazing series of novels set in our own backyard. It just seemed a perfect synergy that a band from the Northwest would create a song for a series of novels set in the Northwest. We wrote ‘Meet Me On the Equinox’ to reflect the celestial themes and motifs that run throughout the Twilight series and we wanted to capture that desperate feeling of endings and beginnings that so strongly affect the main characters. This song marks the first attempt that Death Cab for Cutie has ever made at contributing new, unreleased material for a film and we are proud to be a part of the Twilight legacy.”

And the pandering to the indie demo doesn’t stop there! According to Billboard “music industry sources have the sound headed in a more indie-centric direction than the first “Twilight,” with Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, Grizzly Bear and Muse all in the running.” Oh, boy. I foresee a lot of Internet arguing over “real fans” of those bands in the near future!
