Scott Storch Distances Himself From His Recent Past

Superproducer-in-foreclosure Scott Storch is apparently gearing up for the “redemption” arc of his career, what with this Details profile in which he talks about his cocaine habit (which was sparked by a friend sharing a line with him in 2005), his favorite hangover cure during the flush days (buying an expensive car), and all the sex he’s had. While he doesn’t explain his often awful taste in eyewear, he does disavow pretty much all the music he made during his binge-and-sniff period, which includes decade-of-decadence curios like the Paris Hilton solo album and Brooke Hogan’s first singing effort:

“I was burning through about $250,000 a month, mostly on partying,” he says, his voice low and measured. “I was spending money I had no business spending.” And his coke-fueled sense of invincibility had him believing he couldn’t fail as a star-maker; he became convinced he could make hit records for his onetime girlfriend Hilton and the unlikeliest of pop divas, Brooke Hogan. The results were disasters, and made Storch a punch line. “I was doing blow 24-7. It was out of control,” he says. “I love Brooke, but I did that shit because her father was putting all sorts of pressure on me.” He tosses a bag of Blackberry Kush, some of California’s finest medicinal-grade weed, onto the table. “Sure, it was fun. But the thing is, I didn’t make one good bit of music when I was high on coke. Not one bit.” He shakes his head and leaves the room.

Au contraire, Scott! I may be the only person who remembers Kelly Rowland’s doomed-from-its-pushed-back-release-date 2007 solo album Ms. Kelly, but this beat was pretty hot:

But yeah that Brooke Hogan album… not a good look. Although, you know, I’d probably qualify being under the threat of impending Hulkamania as “very high job-related stress.” SCOTT STORCH: TEARS OF A HIP-HOP CLOWN [Details] Kelly Rowland – Comeback [YouTube]
