Bruce Springsteen Is Now Born To Run Through His Albums

Bruce Springsteen announced that his five homeland shows at New Jersey’s Giants Stadium over the next two weeks—the final concerts to take place at the Meadowlands’ football stadium, which will be torn down at the end of the 2009-10 football season—would each be devoted to classic albums from his back catalog: Two shows each will be devoted to Born To Run and Born In The USA, while one will be given over to the Boss’ 1978 album Darkness On The Edge Of Town. Springsteen’s Sept. 20 show at Chicago’s United Center was devoted to the eight-track album Born To Run, but the 28-song set list had chestnuts from the rest of his catalog, as well as a cover of “Da Doo Ron Ron.” Still, I do wonder if some of the people who like the Boss, but dislike the albums being spotlighted—like one pal of mine—are going to be turned off from going to the shows outright because of the overwhelming leans toward certain parts of his catalog. (A stadium show in the early-October Jersey chill is a commitment!) Is this a bait-and-switch? And why the heck isn’t The Wild, The Innocent, & The E Street Shuffle on the docket?
