Lady GaGa Still Going Full-Speed Ahead With Her Career

ARTIST: Lady GaGa TITLE: “Bad Romance” WEB DEBUT: Oct. 2, 2009 ONE-LISTEN VERDICT: After turning a corner on Lady GaGa thanks to the genius of her currently scaling-the-charts “Paparazzi,” I was expecting a fair amount from “Bad Romance,” which reunites the art-school refugee with “Poker Face” producers RedOne. Alas, this song is pretty much a calculated step back into “Poker Face” territory; you have the monotonous beat, the wordless vocalizing on the chorus, and GaGa channeling the deeper side of her voice in a way that makes me wonder if the airy vocals on “Paparazzi” came from a stand-in. (Also, why is the track nearly five minutes long? Is this another attempt at mind control or something?) GaGa is apparently going to debut her new single (which I’m assuming will appear on the forthcoming monster-themed reissue of her album The Fame) tomorrow night on Saturday Night Live, and I’m hoping that we at least get to see a staging of what might have been. WHERE TO FIND IT: Good luck finding it on YouTube, but a Google search turned the track up pretty quickly.
