Susan Boyle Turning Out To Be A Retail ‘Dream’ Come True

Not only has Susan Boyle’s I Dreamed A Dream set a U.K. record for biggest-selling opening week for a debut album, the Scottish vixen may also end up with about 650,000 copies moved when this week’s Billboard Top 200 chart is published. That’s quite a hike up from the 600,000 units initially projected.

Billboard Biz reports that music sales were generally down over Black Friday weekend, but Susan Boyle was “by far the bright spot.” Interestingly, the trade publication notes that I Dreamed A Dream was at first only expected to do about 250,000 copies during its opening week in the States. Guess all the Amazon.com hype earlier this fall played out nicely. Enjoy the pocket change, Simon Cowell!

So how are last week’s other releases holding up so far?

Billboard says Lady Gaga’s The Fame Monster may sell about 320,000 total between the various versions available. Newbury Comics head of purchasing Chris Mello also let on that Rihanna’s Rated-R and Adam Lambert’s For Your Entertainment are selling well within the chain, though there are no overall numbers yet for national sales.

Sadly, amidst all the figures that have been tossed out over the past week or so, there’s been nary a yelp about Shakira’s She Wolf.
