Mariah Carey Phones It In While Wearing a Bikini

Mariah failed to impress most of her fans with her heavily greenscreened, mindnumbingly sentimental music video for “I Want To Know What Love Is,” randomly set in a baseball stadium. But Mimi goes back to basics—really basic—in her latest beach-strolling clip for “H.A.T.E.U.,” which premiered at the stroke of midnight on the newly launched VEVO music site. No, Mariah didn’t turn into a pumpkin, although that would be a helluva lot more interesting than what she did choose to do in the clip. Check it out after the jump.

Mariah pretty much stole the concept to Heidi Montag’s “Higher,” rented a better camera and added a few more bikinis.

We can’t understand why Brett Ratner, pretty much Mariah’s go-to director, even bothered to agree to direct this vid if not for his longstanding working relationship with Mimi. Is it worth taking time out of his schedule of developing (literally) a dozen projects to film glamour shots of Mariah on a beach and not have anything blow up? Or perhaps a jetski with a hot dude drive by and wink at Mariah, cheering her up? Or, ya know, have anything else happen. It wasn’t so long ago when Mariah would be fighting crime in heels or even happily rollerskating down the boardwalk. And if they really wanted us to focus on Mariah’s singing instead of some fancy story or choreography, why are they trying to distract us with some of the most ill-fitting swimsuits we’ve ever seen on her?
