Selena Gomez Covers Selena

Nick Jonas immediately reminded us of older, more experienced musicians in his video for “Olive and an Arrow,” but his girlfriend Selena Gomez needs bit more work channeling artists who blazed the trail for her. The Disney princess tackled the Mexican pop legend Selena’s “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” while performing at the San Antonio rodeo—but can her cover hold a candle to the original? Catch the vid below to see the Wizards of Waverly Place star sing her namesake‘s hit song.

Selena Gomez – “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom”

Well… she looks cute? (Besides that superfluous black vest ruining the look of that adorable dress.) There’s really no way to compare the two, especially since Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was already a bonafide star when she recorded this song at the age of 23, and Selena Gomez, at 17, is still finding her voice. (Although she’s much more successful pretending to be the Mexican pop star than she is The White Stripes.)

Still, the teen singer’s version still drew cheers from the crowd—and one male fan in particular. Yes, we spy you, Nick Jonas! You think you can hide in the crowd during your girlfriend’s show by wearing a giant cowboy hat?

You can’t! The only time you’ve ever disappeared into a crowd was during the recording of “We Are The World.”

And for the record, here’s the original Selena performing “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.” Take note, teen pop wannabes out there, this is how it’s done.
