Avril Lavigne Falls Down The Rabbit Hole In “Alice” Video

The first single from the Almost Alice soundtrack, Avril Lavigne’s “Alice,” (apparently they dropped the “Underground” bit of the song title), is somewhat of a screechy mess, but we had high hopes for the video. This is for the big song from Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, right? Sure-fire feast for the eyes, right? We’ll give you one hint: the obnoxious pink hair is finally gone. Watch “Alice” below.

Avril Lavigne – “Alice”

Okay, so not much happens in the video, which mostly recycles the movie snippets already revealed in the film’s trailer. Avril, wearing a pop-goth prom frock (hey, at least it’s not a devil hoodie), falls down a hole, eyes the Mad Hatter for a little bit, then runs off to play her piano before returning above ground.

It’s interesting to see Avril try to put musicianship first again after devoting her last few videos to childishly running around and hamming it up for the camera. You wonder if she’s pressured to keep up with Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Orianthi and all the other young female artists who wow audiences with their (actual) skills.
