“Rude Boy” Becomes Rihanna’s Sixth #1

After gloomy Rated R singles “Russian Roulette” and “Hard” failed to return Rihanna to the tip top of the Billboard Hot 100, randy jam “Rude Boy” has now become the mechanically-inclined singer’s sixth overall #1 hit (if we’re including T.I.’s “Live Your Life”), and fifth as a lead artist. There’s just something about springtime and Rihanna singles that makes folks want to fork over their $1.29 on iTunes—”SOS” topped the chart in May 2006, while “Umbrella” hit #1 in early June 2007 and “Take A Bow” crowned the Hot 100 in May 2008.

Elsewhere on the Hot 100, Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s “Telephone” finally moves into the Top 10 after 15 weeks. With the single up two positions to #9, Bey and Rihanna are now tied with the most Top 10 hits (14 each) for a female artist since the year 2000. Billboard notes that Ludacris’ 16 Top 10 singles are the most overall for any act in the past ten-plus years. Luda also just happens to have the #1 album this week.

All that said, Rihanna’s latest achievement has to sting for certain people.
