M.I.A. Takes The Kitchen Sink Approach To Music Criticism—Blasts Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, ‘Twilight’ And More

We discussed M.I.A. ripping Lady Gaga a new one in her recent NME interview earlier this morning, but we neglected to mention the various other musicians and mainstays of pop-culture with which the Sri Lankan singer has a big, big problem. Maya Arulpragasam unleashes her potty mouth while ranting against today’s biggest pop stars, reality shows, vampire movies and even internet search engines. Check out M.I.A.’s All-Inclusive Hate List below, and seriously beware of getting on this woman’s bad side.

Lady Gaga “None of her music’s reflective of how weird she wants to be or thinks she is. She models herself on Grace Jones and Madonna, but the music sounds like 20-year-old Ibiza music, you know? She’s not progressive, but she’s a good mimic. She sounds more like me than I fucking do!”

Ke$ha “I’m more concerned by how someone like Kesha can so blatantly copy Uffie. Everyone’s fine with it. Not a fucking lawsuit in sight.”

The X Factor “Oh God, I’m so bored by it already, people need to get over it. X Factor shit’s irrelevant.”

Coldplay “There’s a difference between saying ‘no’ to everything and ‘yes’ to everything. I’m not fucking Coldplay because I said ‘no’ to certain things.”

Twilight When the producers of the Twilight and New Moon soundtrack asked M.I.A. to contribute a track, “Jimmy [Iovine, chairmen of M.I.A.’s US label Interscope] had beef with the Twilight people, so he stepped in and told them to fuck off.”

Google “Google’s more powerful than any government now—people think it’s God. They’re storing all our data and one day they’re gonna turn against us.”

Money “Money is always the enemy of music.”

Everyone “We have, what, a million songwriters? And probably three risk-takers.”

Although she makes some interesting points, this sure is a lot of negativity for one short interview—maybe M.I.A. should take a look at this morning’s photo of Lea Michele holding a puppy and cheer up already.
