Auto Tune Is Alive And Well On Demi Lovato’s “Me, Myself & Time”

Apr 13th, 2010 // 6 Comments

The young ladies of the Disney Channel have been jettisoning guitar pop for dance jams lately in their second careers as pop stars. Case in point: Selena Gomez’s hit single “Naturally,” and now Demi Lovato with her new Sonny With A Chance tune “Me, Myself & Time.” Joe Jonas’ gal pal performed the electro toe-tapper on her hit series Sunday night—though it might have been more accurate to call it “Me, Myself & Auto Tune.” Watch Demi singing as Sonny Munroe after the jump.

It wasn't badly autotuned, ESPECIALLY if you wanna compare it with anything containing SELENA'S voice.. but for a Demi song, yes.

Since she usually has trouble, of course they had to auto tune it. Nothing new there.

They didn't auto tune it to “fix” her singing. They did it separate her character Sonny's music from Demi's actual music. This song is specifically for her show. None of her actual music uses auto tune.

Uh, have you spent more than two minutes listening to any of her songs? Nearly all of them are auto-tuned to high heaven. They may not be T-pain level auto-tuned, but they're still heavily corrected.

They try to hide the artifacts to make it sound like she's this indie chick (that's the image Disney picked for her), but she's still retuned on almost every note. If you know what you're listening for (jumpy artifacts and impossibly smooth notes when she's belting), you'll hear how much her voice is engineered.
