‘Glee’ Creator Open To Featuring The Songs of Britney Spears—And Courtney Love?!

After the success of this past Tuesday’s Madonna-rific episode of Glee, the masterminds behind TV’s smash high school musical are trying to identify the next pop star to merit a career retrospective a product placement deal. At least two of the candidates are cray-cray blondes: Glee head honcho Ryan Murphy spoke to Entertainment Weekly‘s Music Mix about considering a Britney Spears-centered episode of the show… as well as the possibility of featuring the songbook of Courtney Love. Wait, what?!

Team Britney started the hubbub on Twitter by getting #britneyspearsGLEE to become a trending topic after the Madonna episode aired (which, by the way, Ryan Murphy said the Material Girl “loved.”) That’s all it took for Murphy to respond, telling EW, “I’m interested in the Britney Spears idea. I’ve always loved her. I’m entertaining it. I think young kids would like that.”

Brit-Brit surely has enough songs to go around—we’re already imagining a transfer student named Amy joining New Directions, just so the Gleeks have an excuse to sing “If You Seek Amy.” (We’re sure the FCC censors would love that.)

Other acts he’s contemplating? Hour-long tributes to Billy Joel, Led Zeppelin, and, no, we’re not joking, he really said this, Courtney Love.

“I actually ran into Courtney Love the other day and talked to her,” Murphy says. “She’s interested. I would love to have the kids do a Courtney Love episode one day.”

A Courtney Love episode? We really can’t wrap our heads around this one. Despite the fact that Hole has only had three singles to ever just barely crack the Billboard Hot 100 (meaning hardly anyone would even know the songs being covered or referenced), the cast would spend the majority of the episode Twittering incomprehensibly and fighting publicly with members of their family. Not exactly Emmy material.

Which artist would you love to see have their own Glee episode? Beyoncé? Green Day? And how long before Glee morphs completely into American Idol with all these theme weeks?
