Eminem’s New Freestyle Joint Is Called “Despicable” And Guess What—He’s Angry

“Not Afraid,” Eminem’s upcoming single off next studio album Recovery, will premiere this Friday, according to MTV. “It’s not a dark song, it’s an uplifting song,” Em’s manager Paul Rosenberg told Billboard. But to whet the appetites of his fans—and perhaps incite a bit of controversy (this is Eminem, after all)—the Detroit-based rapper offered up “Despicable” today, a short-but-wordy freestyle rap over samples of Drake’s “Over” and Lloyd Banks’ “Beamer, Benz Or Bentley.” Hear it below!

Em raps the following with venom: “Get rowdy as Roethlisberger in a bathroom stall/ Life a leaf stuck in a vacuum, y’all/There ain’t nothin’ but a whole lot of suckin’ goin’ on in rap/Yeah, but I’m home, bad to the bone, back in the zone.”

But does he sound any angrier than usual? You decide.

Producer Jim Jonsin, who worked on Eminem’s upcoming album Recovery, talked to MTV about the recording sessions:

“He was real respectful to my craft. He let me do what I do. He asked me ideas on some of the lyrics. We had ideas for lyric changes. Certain words may or may not work on radio. We talked about that. He had a setup outside of the room to do production, but I’d rather be in the room where he was at, and he was cool with that. And I knocked out a couple of joints in there while he was in there with me. He was pretty open and he let me do my thing. He did his thing. It was a pretty good experience.”

Recovery is due out June 22, the same day Miley Cyrus, Chamillionaire and Cyndi Lauper‘s next albums are set to be released.
