‘American Idol’: Siobhan Magnus Sent Packing Down The Country Road

Last night’s American Idol results show found Michael Lynche, Casey James and the often ear-piercing Siobhan Magnus in the bottom three. And there seems to be general shock and awe over the fact that Magnus—who host Ryan Seacrest praised as being “an independent spirit” with “an incredible work ethic”—was the one voted off. Alas, we must remember that it’s down to the wire now in Season 9, and inevitably there can only be one winner. Watch how things played out last night—between Siobhan’s elimination and performances by Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, Shakira and Carrie Underwood opening act Sons Of Sylvia—below!

Big Mike was the first one of the bottom three who was found to be safe. And, well, we already know who got the boot. At least Shuv went out singing Aretha Franklin’s “Think”—a song she performed earlier in the season during one of her high points.

Here’s how it went down:

Was that her mom who told her, “You’re still our star”? An aunt? Either way—sigh—we’ll definitely miss your high notes, Siobhan, even if your performances weren’t always consistent. This now leaves us with our official Top 5: Crystal Bowersox, Lee Dewyze, Casey James, Aaron Kelly and Michael Lynche.

Anyway, on to the night’s other performances, including Carrie Underwood introducing her current opening act Sons Of Sylvia:

Rascal Flatts, “Unstoppable”

Lady Antebellum, “Need You Now”

Sons Of Sylvia, “Love Left To Lose”

Shakira with Rascal Flatts, “Gypsy”

Next Tuesday: Harry Connick, Jr. mentors the Top 5 as they take on the songs of Frank Sinatra. Surely 16-year-old Aaron Kelly already knows that catalog by heart, no?
