Betty White And Jay-Z Turn ‘SNL’ Into A True Event

May 9th, 2010 // 3 Comments

Ah, Jay-Z and Betty White—both national treasures. And, Hova, we love you, but truth be told, your gig as musical guest on Saturday Night Live last night was largely overshadowed by the 88-year-old Golden Girl (the “Delicious Dish” muffin skit alone was worth staying up for). Still, recent Coachella headliner Jay managed to turn out an impressive medley of “Public Service Announcement,” “On To The Next One,” “99 Problems” and “Empire State Of Mind,” as well as a performance of current hit “Young Forever” (featuring Mr Hudson), which he dedicated to “the most incredible Betty White.” Watch below!

Kudos so SNL for getting us to actually watch the whole way through for the first time in years. Guess we have Facebook to thank.

And with only one more episode left before this season ends (next week Alec Baldwin hosts and musical guests Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers will take the stage), we’d like suggest one thing: Betty White as regular—or, at the very least, recurring—cast member next year!

Even with Betty, the show was mostly awful, as usual. JayZ was nothing special – is he ever?

  2. IMO

The show was one of the best ever. Don’t believe the hype about classic casts. Even the 76-80 and Early 90′s casts had bad skits towards the end of the show. We don’t remember them, because the original 90 minutes episodes are rarely aired.

And unlike the previous commenter, I was very impressed with Jay-Z’s performance, especially the medley. I don’t know if the writers could come up with great skits for white every week (eventually the bawdy old woman/lesbian jokes would get old) and it’s worth noting that this episode also had a who’s who of former players, but none of that takes away from what IS a classic episode of SNL. The writers and players and producers, I’m sure, are all very proud.

If they can do 75% as well this week, the show will be a success by SNL standard.

  3. We appreciate you this report, It was an amazing analyze which was quite beneficial.
