Does Scissor Sisters’ “Fire With Fire” Have Any Fire?
“Fire With Fire,” the first single from Scissor Sisters’ upcoming third LP Night Work (out June 28), premiered on UK radio recently. The Stuart Price-produced track is a bit more understated than “Invisible Light,” the song the band used last month to herald news of the upcoming album. Personally, while we commend the Sisters on such a joyous track that continues to build for three-and-a-half minutes, it just doesn’t feel like first-single-off-a-new-album material. And what is it with the minimalist approach to choruses lately?
We’d have gone with dark dance jam “Invisible Light” over “Fire With Fire,” no question. Again, that’s not to say it isn’t a good song—”Fire With Fire” just seems to lack that immediate hook that makes the consumer want to invest in a full LP.
Guess what we’re trying to say is we don’t feel like dancin’.
