Glee star Cory Monteith spent his 28th b-day this week taping a segment for The Ellen Show, and although he was given a gift by Ellen (oversize drum sticks large enough to pole dance around—don’t let Miley anywhere near them), Cory took something away from us—the possibility of one day creating ultra-adorable offspring with Taylor Swift, whom he denies dating. Ah, just when we had an awesome celebrity name picked out for them (Taycor… or Swifteith). Check out Cory’s one-on-one with Ellen below to see him reenact his Glee audition tape.

Monteith declares that he was never a singer before being cast on the Fox show, since he mainly focused on drums. So, that’s what he did in his audition tape—he banged on Tupperware and glassware with a pair of drumsticks. Apparently that got him enough attention to get him to be called in to sing live for the casting directors, and that’s when Cory realized he better learn how to sing. “I got the Rent soundtrack and Billy Joel’s greatest hits,” Cory recollects. “I sang Billy Joel’s ‘Honestly’—I was so nervous, but you have to just go for it.”

So, he is just going for it with any number of the Hollywood ladies he’s been linked to? No—well, at least not Swift. “No, we’re just friends,” he tells Ellen, who, like us, isn’t satisfied with that answer.

“You’d be a cute couple, maybe,” prods Ellen, playing matchmaker. “She’s lovely, you’re lovely. And so, two lovely people… think about it.”

Then again, if Cory starts dating the country singer, there’s a very strong chance that Glee will dedicate an entire hour to the songbook of Taylor Swift… so maybe it’s just better those two remain pals.
