Our favorite arch android Janelle Monae hit up BET’s 106 & Park yesterday and discussed her new album, and what experiencing her live shows is like. “Electrifying. I don’t choreograph pretty much anything I do,” the singer said. “So I’m must merely creating art right in front of my eyes and the audience’s eyes. It’s like a spiritual, out-of-body experience. I feel very possessed.” Watch Janelle talking about creating uplifting music for the people after the jump.

“I do want to help redefine what it means to be a woman—how a woman can dress, how a woman can wear her hair,” Monae said, to much applause. You go, girl!

Following her appearance on the show, Janelle tweeted, “Thank you 106th + Park, BET, for supporting me and my message.”

Is it just us, or does this humble, working class performer from Kansas sound more and more like the most sensible singer on the planet (comments about The Other and Neo from The Matrix aside)?
