Now that Cyndi Lauper’s stint on Celebrity Apprentice is over (fear not—we’ll be seeing her on TV again), she’s readying the release of her upcoming album Memphis Blues. Cyn wrangled in some of the greats to help her out with the LP—B.B. King, Charlie Musselwhite and Jonny Lang, to name a few. And while she recently sang Lady Gaga’s praises in the pages of Time, allow us to commend Cyndi on her ability to sing the blues like a pro. Listen below!

Lauper’s single “Just Your Fool” was added to iTunes this week. Meanwhile, People offered up another glimpse into Cyndi’s bluesy foray into the Deep South with this clip of “Early In The Mornin’,” which also features B.B. King and Allen Toussant.

What is it about Cyndi Lauper that makes us follow everything she tries out (including bright red lipstick)?

“Everything I ever sang, from jazz to rock to pop to dance, is based on rhythm and blues,” Lauper told People. “I looked at what was going on in our country and I really felt like everybody’s singing the blues, so I needed to take the blues music and make it uplifting.”

Memphis Blues is out June 22, ahead of Cyndi’s summer tour.
