‘Idol’ Guest Blog: Bo Bice Reviews The Finale

You already know what we think about Lee DeWyze’s big win on Idol. But it’s about time you hear from someone who knows exactly how Crystal Bowersox feels: Season 4 runner-up Bo Bice, who was in the house for last night’s results. Bo sized up the Idol Top 4 perfectly in his last guest post, and we could think of no one better to review last night’s star-studded finale. (We <3 him so much we drew him in CRAYON in our special video recap.)

Bo just released his third album, the aptly titled 3, and you really ought to visit his site to hear him sing his new tune “Long Road Back”. That’s what a rock star sounds like. Did Bo guess Season 9’s winner correctly? Head below to find out.

Bo’s Review: My first question to one of the producers was “How are you gonna top last year?” Let’s be honest, Kiss and Queen on the same show – kinda hard to follow, know what I mean? But when they kicked off the finale this year with Alice Cooper singing “School’s Out for Summer” the crowd was on their feet, me being one of them. Wasn’t quite sure if the AI crowd would dig Alice, but looking around I could see that everyone turned into a schoolkid for three minutes while he rocked the house. Follow up performances from Hall and Oates, Christina Aguilera, Michael McDonald, Bret Michaels (who has been recovering from serious health issues and STILL managed to rock the house) and Janet Jackson – I was truly blown away. But the icing on top of the cake was Joe Cocker. I think Crystal and Lee Both were over the moon to have the opportunity to sing with such a music legend. This finale really had the star power we associate with America’s #1 television show. As the anticipation built in the house you could almost cut it with a knife – “Who’s going to win – is it gonna be Crystal?” who really knocked it out of the park on the final performance show, or will it be Lee, who was almost the comeback kid in this competition. I have to say judging from the response of the crowd on Tuesday night I thought Crystal had it in the bag. When it came down to it Lee Dewyze took home the prize! What an incredible night! It seems like every time I make a prediction on who the winner will be, the other contestant snatches the #1 spot. Next year, I’m taking my betting to Vegas, and believe it or not – I’ll have to bet against myself! This has really been a cool finale – I was able to see friends from previous seasons and from my own, and to be a part of the sendoff song for our good friend Simon Cowell was truly an honor. He and American Idol have helped many of the contestants by providing them with the opportunity to have incredible careers beyond the show. We’ll miss you, Simon and wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Until next year, Bice out! * Visit Bo Bice’s official website, his Twitter, his Facebook, and pick up his album 3 on May 18. Bo is dedicating all the proceeds from the sales of his single “Long Road Back” to those who were affected by the flooding in Nashville, so go over to iTunes and pick that up, too.
