Kid Cudi To Drop Sophomore Album This September

Almost a year to the day his debut album dropped into our laps (and his music headed straight onto TV commercials), Kid Cudi is ready to unveil his next musical offering. The rapper-singer-actor will release his sophomore album Man on the Moon: The Legend of Mr. Rager (the second album in what is rumored to be a trilogy) this September. Guests this time around include some familiar faces like Kanye West and Ratatat, in addition to southern rock outfit Band of Horses filling in MGMT’s role as Cudder’s fave indie band du jour.

Cudi debuted a new song off his upcoming album at a gig in Eugene, Oregon over the weekend. Word is the track is called “Revolution,” and you can check it out below.

Kid Cudi – “Revolution” (Live)

The bouncey, introspective track sounds like it fell right off the track listing for Man on the Moon: The End of the Day, which indicates this won’t be a huge sidestep into a new musical direction. Or will it? Cudi recently blogged that this next album will be even “darker” than the first:

“I took a step back, went on tour, and realized I’m where [I’m] at because of the type of songs I write.  Every time I read a comment from someone saying I’ve touched their lives in some way is what made me want to stop f**king around and continue pouring my life into my music… this is my darkest work so far with a hint of fun and grooviness for those who like the classic chill cudi sound but elevated to another level. The things i cant speak will be the things i write.  before anything else, you’d come to the conclusion i need a shrink, a stronger drug or a mentor.  not a hug.”

You have to wonder how much darker and more meloncholy the guy can get, considering the fact his most upbeat song on MOTM was about being a lonely stoner. Are you sure you don’t need a huge, Cudi? We’d be more than glad to cuddle with you.
