Poor Lee DeWyze. The American Idol winner, who recently lent his patriotic pipes to the NBA Finals, just can’t seem to shake the “paint store clerk” story. On last night’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Lee told the nighttime host, “I think everyone knows that at this point. I run into people on the street and they’re like, what color should I paint my bedroom? I’m like, I don’t know!” Watch Lee’s interview and performance after the jump.

The Idol winner went on to explain how the paint store kept calling him after he was whisked away to Los Angeles once he made it through the audition process. “They’re calling me up—what’s the deal, man? When are you coming back?” Lee said. “You know, you pack for two weeks in Hollywood Week. Since then, I’ve only been back once.”

Lee then busted out a mellow rendition of “Beautiful Day” with the Roots.
