N.E.R.D. And Nelly Furtado Seek “Hot N’ Fun” In Their New Video

The best thing about the new video for “Hot N’ Fun”, the first track of N.E.R.D.’s upcoming fourth album, is that it depicts what we believe to be Pharrell Williams’ everyday life: he rolls through the desert in a psychedelic Rolls Royce Phantom, picking up more or less topless hitchhikers, watching cartoons float by and feeling really bored with the whole affair. (We might be too if we considered how much this one evokes memories of Ke$ha’s last video). See Pharrell kick off his latest adventure (with Nelly Furtado) below.

Yes, it’s a straightforward party video that offers precious little to ponder — which is a bit of a letdown considering it was directed by Jonas Akerlund, the Swedish video auteur behind “Telephone” and “Paparazzi”. It just doesn’t provide much to think about. But as Pharrell says, with what seems to be at least a hint of genuine weariness, “People don’t think no more, they just want to feel.”

Here’s hoping that N.E.R.D.’s new album, Nothing, will be about something.
