Kanye West Might Get ‘Wicked’ On ‘Good Ass Job’

Some footage surfaced today of Kanye West twiddling knobs in his Hawaiian recording studio, working on his forthcoming album while various members of his entourage (Amber Rose included, ‘natch) stand around and watch the man do his thing. We’re right there with him. Most interestingly, though, is that he’s mixing a tune called “Popular,” sung by Glee gal Kristin Chenoweth from the Broadway musical Wicked. Could Kanye West be taking a cue from Broadway for Good Ass Job?

There’s no confirmation that this song sampling will show up on Good Ass Job, but Kanye has sampled everything from Daft Punk (“Stronger”) to Ray Charles (“Gold Digger”) and even the score to the film Great Expectations (“Robo Cop”)—why not go to B’way to seek some inspiration?

After all, Jay-Z (who’s a regular around the theatre crowd nowadays) sampled “I’d Do Anything” from the musical Oliver! on “Anything”, as well as Annie for his song “Hard Knock Life.” So it’s more than perfectly acceptable to incorporate showtunes into your rap songs.

Plus, it’s a song called “Popular.” Makes total sense for ‘Ye to connect with a song like that, because we all know whoever has the most “Power” is more than likely the most popular.
