Much like Shakira earning some street cred by covering The xx, Cee-Lo Green’s dip into indie rock also triumphs. The singing half of Gnarls Barkley recorded an inspired cover of the 2007 Band of Horses song “No One’s Gonna Love You” for his upcoming solo album Cee-Lo Green Is the Lady Killer, and the track’s cinematic video awaits you below.

Cee-Lo – “No One’s Gonna Love You” (Band of Horses cover)

In the video, two lovers embark on a road trip after getting evicted from their apartment, stopping in various locations to frolick around a meadow, hold hands in a diner, dive into lakes and appear nude for no reason in particular. Things quickly turn dark for the couple, although we’re not exactly sure what happened. (Did they kill somebody? Rob an off-screen bank? Is the girlfriend just bored with her boyfriend? How inexplicably vague.)

What’s more interesting to us than this aimless video is the cover itself—Cee-Lo (and the tune’s producer Paul Epworth) speeds up the track, adds an electro beat, and creates a mellow dance track with a menacing vibe. We’re kind of freaked out by it, which is a good thing. The song will be featured on Cee-Lo’s solo album Cee-Lo Green Is the Lady Killer, out this Fall.
