Elton John Writing ‘Animal Farm’ Musical

While Lily Allen prepares her Bridget Jones’ Diary musical, we can look forward to even more pop creations to hit the stage—Elton John  has been diligently working with writer Lee Hall (who penned both the stage and screen version of Billy Elliot) on a musical adaptation of George Orwell’s classic book Animal Farm. We’re not sure how well an allegory about communism will translate to the stage as a big musical, but John’s The Lion King won about a billion Tonys, so we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to writing music for animals to sing. One thing is clear though—Elton doesn’t need Simon Cowell’s job, as he’s doing just fine developing his own projects, thankyouverymuch. [Rolling Stone]
