Katy Perry Blasts Her Ex In New Track “Circle The Drain”

If you want Katy Perry looking sweet and lovely, check out her just-dropped “Teenage Dream” video. If you want your pop star with a bit more bite, though, her angry woman-scorned track “Circle the Drain” also surfaced today, and it’s a not-so-subtle jab at her ex Travie McCoy. Let’s just say Travie should want to be a billionaire so he can afford damage control after hearing his reputation being smacked around in this song. Listen below.

Katy Perry – “Circle The Drain”

“Thought I was the exception / I could rewrite your addiction / You could have been the greatest / But you’d rather get wasted,” Katy snaps in this Tricky Stewart-produced takedown track. “You fall asleep during foreplay/ ‘Cause the pills you take are more your forté / I’m not sticking around to watch you go down / Wanna be your lover / Not your fucking mother.”

Oh, it gets angrier from there, folks: “You’ve become what you despised / A stereotype / You think you’re so rock ‘n’ roll / But you’re really just a joke / Had the world in the palm of your hands / But you fuckin’ choked.”

Ouch… talk about airing your dirty laundry. We’re not so sure how we feel about an entire song dedicated to criticizing somebody who had an addiction (Travie has been addicted to pharmaceuticals since he was a teenager), even if he was a shitty boyfriend. As for the song itself, it feels like a modern day Heart or Pat Benatar tune, and we have a feeling this will soon be the go-to angry-ex-girlfriend song to replace “You Oughta Know” for the 21st century.

Do you think this song is way harsh, particularly since it’s slamming another public figure in the music scene? Or does Katy deserve a pat on the back for writing a pop song with some real-life emotion?
