Mark Salling, who plays the mohawked, often dense-headed Puck on Glee, will drop his debut album Pipe Dreams on October 12. Listen to his premiere single “Higher Power” below, and tell us if you’d rather spend your time listening to Salling sing “Sweet Caroline” and other artist’s songs instead of his own.

Salling’s lower register gets a little nasal and froggy on this low-key track, and he sounds a bit more comfortable singing the higher notes. He kind of reminds us of a less vocally trained Robbie Williams. As for the song itself, it has a downbeat, 60s rock vibe to it, so we’re assuming Pipe Dreams will be more of a laid back throwback rock album as opposed to anything we can dance to. It’s definitely a change of pace from what Salling encounters during his day job.

Here’s Salling, looking extra buff than usual (someone spent their summer break in the gym!), announcing his album news to his fans:

Interesting that Salling previously released an album Smoke Signals in 2008 under the name Jericho, but he’s calling Pipe Dreams his official “debut”.
