With the help of artist Takasahi Murakami, Britney Spears explores the Japanese “super cute” culture on the cover of Pop‘s winter 2010 issue. We’re half-expecting to flip the mag open to find pigtailed future Glee star Britney shooting lasers and doing battle with fanged rabbits and evil robot school children inside. Head below to see the full cover and to read what what Spears had to say about (possibly) working with Lady Gaga.

“I just saw the photos for the first time and they are beautiful. Comes out Sept. 1st,” Britney tweeted about the Pop shoot. And in the actual interview, she was asked about the possibility of collaborating with Lady Gaga, a singer who is no stranger to Japanese art (or having entire episodes of Glee devoted to her). “I’m a big fan of hers…anything’s possible!” she said, as quoted by Celebuzz.

So while Britney fans and the Lady’s little monsters ponder the potential of that hook-laden summit (“Telephone Me…Baby One More Time”?), let’s flash back to 2008, when the Gaga-penned “Quicksand” appeared as a European iTunes bonus track on Spears’ Circus album:
