Hurts And Kylie Minogue Team Up On Haunting Duet “Devotion”

Kylie Minogue has appeared on duets with various artists in the past—Pet Shop Boys, Jason Donovan, Robbie Williams, Nick Cave, etc. And while the latter pairing may have raised eyebrows back in 1995, both Minogue and Cave were still established artists at that point. And so comes “Devotion,” a wrenching, epic ballad that finds America’s Got Talent performer Kylie singing alongside relatively new UK duo Hurts—an act who’s debut album isn’t even available yet. She said yes,” said Hutchcraft. “The delicate yet powerful way she expresses the fragility of female emotion has added a magical missing ingredient to an album about love, loss and happiness. If you don’t ask, you don’t get… I guess.”

And, boy, are we glad they asked. “Devotion” is broody, for sure. But the track (surely a future single?) is also embedded with a hook that works its way under your skin and has you longing for rainy days and the type of heartache that only a song like this could tap into.

Kylie here is as Dusty Springfield was to long-reigning British synth pop duo Pet Shop Boys; the perfect muse for a longing composition. Consider this Hurts’ “What Have I Done To Deserve This?”

The two musicians further expressed their appreciation for Kylie earlier this week by covering her 1994 hit “Confide In Me” for The Sun.

Hurts’ debut LP Happiness will be out in the UK on September 6th.
