Billie Joe Armstrong and the gang offered up two giant surprises for Green Day fans during their tour stop in Denver, Colorado this week: one, that they’re recording a live album, and two, the Bay Area rockers debuted a previously unreleased song, “Cigarettes And Valentines.” Watch the live video below!

Green Day – “Cigarettes And Valentines”

“Cigarettes And Valentines” isn’t exactly new, although you may have never heard it before. In the summer of 2003, the band recorded 20 songs for a follow-up LP to 2002’s compilation album Shenanigans, to be titled Cigarettes And Valentines. The master recordings, however, were mysteriously stolen from the studio.

Instead of starting from scratch, Green Day made American Idiot instead. So I guess you can’t be too upset that they didn’t record Cigarettes tunes. Especially now that it looks like the band is ready to release the songs off the lost album, even if it’s just performing them in concert or slapping them on their live album.
