2010 MTV VMAs—Who Got Shut Out?

Lady Gaga and Eminem have so many Moonmen between them from last night’s MTV VMAs, they could start their own VMA-themed chess board. But there were plenty of big names who had to sashay throughout the after-parties empty-handed. Below, a round-up of those artists who got totally shut out at last night’s show:

Beyoncé picked up a Moonman for Best Collaboration for her and Lady Gaga’s “Telephone”, so Bey wasn’t completely shut out of the night. But considering that that particular award’s announcement wasn’t televised, and the fact that last year’s Video Of The Year winner was up for eight awards and only won one for a track that wasn’t on her album, it feels like a bigger loss. No wonder Bey didn’t even bother to show up.

B.o.B (5 noms), Ke$ha (4 noms) and Katy Perry (3 noms) also received nothing, although Katy was treated to some nice onstage banter with Nicki Minaj (who was also shut out of winning her one nom for Best New Artist, to Florence + The Machine’s disappointment).

We’re still surprised Taylor Swift didn’t walk away with Best Female Video, her sole nomination, as we expected, since we’re pretty sure nobody would dare publicly counterpoint that Gaga’s “Bad Romance” totally deserved it instead of Taylor’s green screen dream in “Fifteen.” But it looks as though MTV thought giving Swift the opportunity to debut a new song (looking drop dead gorgeous, we might add) without being interrupted was good enough publicity, she didn’t need to make another speech.

Honestly, we wouldn’t mind more Swift at the VMAs if they would have decided to air Taylor and Kanye’s meet-up backstage. Quick, Funny or Die or Saturday Night Live or any one of the users on YouTube, film a dramatization of what went down behind the scenes!

Check out all of last night’s performances and on-stage fashion faux-pas (seriously, Rihanna, what 9-year old dressed you? It certainly wasn’t Willow Smith) over here.

  1. “…for she and Lady Gaga’s “Telephone”…”

You probably meant “her” insteaf of “she”?
