Justin Bieber Gets Serious For His “U Smile” Video

For a song titled “U Smile”, Justin Bieber looks fairly morose in the track’s video. Maybe he’s still in character from his CSI episode? Perhaps he was just unimpressed with his likeness for the Bieber line of dolls? Or there’s a good chance he finally got around to watching the remix of his bottle-induced head injury. Either way, we’re sure he’ll finally smile knowing that you watched him get up close and personal with a brand new (and oh so lucky) co-star in his new video. Hope Jasmine Villegas isn’t the jealous type!

Justin Bieber — “U Smile”

First of all, not for a second to we buy those girls in the video’s prologue being actual, real-life Justin Bieber fans. They are way, way, way too calm asking for his autograph and posing for a photo with the pop star. They should be screaming and chasing him! Starting a riot! Cutting off locks of hair! That’s what real Beliebers do!

Feigned interest. That’s what we see on these girls’ faces. Malarky! Get some real, absolutely insane fans in there!

Justin explained the “U Smile” video earlier today via (where else?) Twitter. And thank god he did! Otherwise we would have been so terribly, terribly confused. Says JB: “…the video is i meet as she is a fan…and i fall for her. i fall 4 her smile…it is the story of me and her..and she represents all of u. so when u watch tonight think that could be us :)”

Bieber, you tease! Stop leading all of us on!

In all honesty, the “U Smile” video is simple (Justin plays the piano, meets a fan, they stroll around an empty theater while their hands touch), but the cinematic clip is beautifully shot, and showcases Justin’s skills as a competent pianist as well as a Casanova.

We might add that this pop ballad gives Justin the opportunity to show off his most impressive vocals—dare we compare little Bieber in this song to a young Michael Jackson? Both the song and Justin’s pipes (as well as his suave dance moves descending that dimly lit staircase in the vid) aren’t far off from sounding like they came straight from the Jackson 5.

What do you think, folks? Are you smiling? Or do you wish they filmed the video slowed down 800 times so that it could last 35 minutes?
