Listen To The Black Cards’ New Song “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Fame”

Pete Wentz’s new dance-pop outfit The Black Cards (so happy they’ve abandoned the Ke$ha-esque annoyance of spelling their band’s name with anything but letters from the alphabet) released another track from their debut album, the plucky slice of Euro-style disco funk, “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Fame.” Does it live up to or outshine Wentz’s work in Fall Out Boy? We’re still not completely sold on lead singer‘s Bebe Rexha’s baby-voiced vocals, but we’ll hold off on our final verdict til we hear some more of their musical output. Wentz delved into the back story of the track on his blog:

“Dr Jekyll & Mr Fame was one of seven songs we wrote at the beginning of the record when we were just starting to look for a voice. I took a trip to London to do some auditions and ended up blazing a credit card at Nobu instead (sorry TL). This is where the line ‘I miss america, I miss the uk’ comes from. Its the closest to FAD or IOH of anything word wise as its the oldest.”

FAD and IOH would be, of course, Fall Out Boy’s last two albums, Folie A Deux and Infinity On High. While it sounds basically nothing like the music Wentz wrote while in FOB on the surface, we can almost picture Patrick Stump singing a stripped-down version of this track. (Although we know he’s busy at the moment completing his own solo album and covering theme show themes.)
