Rihanna Has ‘Billboard’ Covered

Rihanna appears on the cover of the upcoming issue of Billboard (dated October 16), and she tells the publication that nearly 100 writers and producers were invited to submit tracks for her upcoming album Loud (due out November 16). “We’d Have 10 writers in one room and five writers in another room and put them with one producer, then split the group up and put them with another producer.” Talk about musical chairs! RiRi’s cover story also finds her echoing the statement she made in a recent BBC interview: “I wanted songs that only I could do, not generic songs that everyone else could sing.” (At least this time around she didn’t link that sentiment to her pal Katy Perry.)

Granted, at this point the flame-haired Barbadian diva just may have the clout to make such bold statements. Billboard points out that Rihanna has racked up appearances on 16 Top 10 hits on the Hot 100, ranking her sixth among females with the most Top 10s in the chart’s 52-year history.

For the record, here are the Hot 100’s leading ladies, as far as Top 10 singles go:

1. Madonna (37) 2-3. Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson (27) 4. Whitney Houston (23) 5. Aretha Franklin (17)
