Mariah Carey Unwraps ‘Merry Christmas II You’ Tracklisting
Now that “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is a seasonal staple to rival any Burl Ives tune, it’s about time Mariah Carey blessed us with another bundle of catchy songs to pretend we don’t listen to year-round. Last night, the diva who needs some sensible shoes in her stocking this year, announced the track list for Merry Christmas II You on her website, featuring a few MC originals, some old favorites — even a duet with her mother! On the whole, the lineup seems pretty standard — traditional holiday songs we’ve heard covered by just about every pop artist looking to make an easy few bucks come December. It’s unfortunate that Mimi’s mama Patricia Carey duets on “O Come All Ye Faithful” rather than, say, “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” — which might give us some intriguing Freudian insights into Mariah’s upbringing, but oh well.
However, we are rather curious to hear Mariah Claus’ take on “Charlie Brown Christmas,” a nostalgic favorite for anyone who had a remotely healthy childhood (even though this puppy looks nothing like Snoopy). And certainly, it’ll be interesting find out what an “extra festive” take on “All I Want For Christmas Is You” sounds like – doesn’t that song already start playing when you look up “festive” in the dictionary?
Presumably, not every track will sound like a North Pole version of Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend” as the boppy “Oh Santa!” does — though if Mariah finds a way to spruce up solemn standards like “The First Noel,” we’ll be in good cheer. Merry Christmas II You is coming to town November 2.
