On the same day that Adam Lambert’s It Gets Better video was posted online, the glam crooner flew into Australia and recorded a performance of his single “If I Had You” for the country’s version of The X Factor. “I got here this morning…at 5 a.m., ” he said on stage. “So it’s like, going Down Under and doing it right, right?” Head below to watch Glambert belt out his For Your Entertainment hit and discuss how he deals with the controversy that has dogged him on occasion. As with his It Gets Better video aimed at his younger gay fans, Adam showed that he’s got quite a level (if not dolled-up) head on his dressed-to-the-nines shoulders.

“I think controversy is in the eye of the beholder,” Lambert said after his performance. “When I get on the stage, I just do what I do. So you either like it or you don’t.”

The Australian leg of Adam’s Glam Nation tour kicks off tomorrow at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre.
