Nicki Minaj Demands Respect In “Right Thru Me” Video

Our favorite thing about Nicki Minaj? Is it the kaleidoscopic fashion? Her obsession with toys? Or her flat-out astounding skills on the mic? While Nicki has blessed us with many things, perhaps our favorite thing about her is that she continues to surprise us. Witness: just two days after laughing it up in a cartoonish clip with will.i.am, she returns with what has to be her heaviest performance ever (yes, more so than Stuck On Broke) — watch her in a rare moment of vulnerability as she plays a disrespected woman in the just-premiered, “borderline romantic” “Right Thru Me”. Watch Nicki get personal.

Directed by Diane Martel, the video finds Nicki playing off model Willy Monfret. “I’m making big drama?!?!” But their heat is restored once they hit the shower.

Seeing Nicki rocking a natural look (without any of these) was a refreshing change, and it perfectly suited a song she has described as one of her most revealing.

“The song to me is very, very personal. I haven’t spoken about an authentic relationship since I’ve come out, so this is my first time where I’m speaking about something very, very authentic that everyone in the world can relate to,” she told Entertainment Tonight during filming. “Not everybody is rich, not everybody likes jewelry, not everyone likes playing dress-up, but everyone has been in a relationship at some point in their lives, so when you hear a relationship song, it’s like, you react.”

This clip is so good, we’re pretty much willing to forget about “Massive Attack”. Can’t wait for Pink Friday.
